Northern Ireland

The Belfast Big FishNot too long ago, travel agents wouldn’t recommend including Northern Ireland on a UK travel itinerary.
Religious friction, however, has settled down so that visitors can travel in the area and visit several castle ruins and churches in the country. Because Northern Ireland isn’t attached to the rest of the UK, travelers must get there by ferry boat or airplane. There are several ferry boats that make for a nice trip across the channel between the main body of the UK and Northern Ireland.

Visitors may wish to stay on and tour Southern Ireland as well, which is a different country and not technically attached to the UK.
